‘Standard reformed’: Effectual calling unto eternal life is by the instrumental means of gospel preaching. Gospel preaching is the necessary means for God to bestow spiritual life to His elect.

In the following sections, you will read the responses to the seven theological statements found in the formal letter lodged by the seven churches against Pastor Lau. The seven theological positions are related; therefore some repetitions in the responses are inevitable. In any case, some repetition is necessary because of the dullness of hearing. Each of the seven responses is addressed thus:
“To the elder/pastor and all members of churches represented by:
Peter Kek, JB First Community Church
Lam Chin Kaw, Gereja Reformed Baptist Melaka
Ho Eng Ghee, Serdang Grace Baptist Church
Andrew Liu, Miri Reformed Baptist Church
Woo Boon Seong, Woodlands Reformed Baptist Church
Ang Lai Hoe, Kuala Kubu Chapel (Reformed Baptist)
James Indran, Grace Reformed Baptist Church (Tamil)
Dear brethren,
In the combined name of your seven churches, you have written officially to express your deep concern over my ‘doctrinal errors’ as pastor of SDC. This is because I differ from the ‘standard reformed position’ of your churches. I do thank you for your zeal for the truth and the pursuit for doctrinal orthodoxy. Please permit me to offer some scattered thoughts on your charges of my doctrinal errors because I disagree with your ‘standard reformed position’. Perhaps after hearing this clarification, you will withdraw the charges (implied in your letter), and to reconsider your own belief, and alter the course of action you have planned to take. I write in the most respectful manner I know. When names are quoted, it is only in order all may know who said what. After all, each man should be glad that his view is publicized. When obvious error and inconsistencies are pointed out, they are pointed out for the sake of truth, and not to injure the person who holds such inconsistencies. I am always thankful to be shown and convinced of my errors. Kindly reciprocate.
The first theological point is expressed in your letter as follows:
“Effectual calling & regeneration – that sinners are effectually called by the Word (Gospel) and Spirit; and that regeneration takes place in connection with effectual call, and pushes itself into consciousness in the response of faith and repentance.”
